Malaria is the biggest killer of children under the age of 5 in sub-Saharan Africa. During the rainy season – July to October – Saybatou Moussa and other community health workers go door-to-door to give preventive antimalarial medicine to young children in the city of Maradi, Niger.
In this video, Saybatou takes us through a typical day in the life of community health workers who, despite hardship and long distances, are determined to protect the children of their communities from malaria.
By providing preventive malaria treatment, like seasonal malaria chemoprevention (SMC), community health workers are helping create lasting impact in communities.
In 2017, Catholic Relief Services and the Global Fund launched CRuSh Malaria, a campaign that aims to expand access to SMC for children in Niger and reduce the number of malaria cases among children under five by 60 percent by 2020.
